Austin Animal Shelters Team Up to Save 1500 Feline Lives this Summer
Adopt a Shelter Cat Summer is officially underway at the Austin Humane Society (AHS) and Town Lake Animal Center (TLAC)! For the second year in a row, Austin’s animal shelters are teaming up to find homes for at least 1500 cats and kittens this ‘Cat Summer,’ (Approximately two times the typical number adopted during a typical three month period). Adopt a Shelter Cat Summer comes at a time when shelters are over-filled with cats and kittens after the spring kitten boom. This summer, cat and kitten adoption fees will be reduced to $35 (regularly $85) and cats over the age of 5 years will have a waived adoption fee. Cats over the age of 8 years will come with a deluxe carrier to make car trips more comfortable.

Last year’s “Adopt a Shelter Cat Summer” yielded just over 1400 adoptions between the two organizations. This year, TLAC and AHS plan to break that record and find homes for at least 1500 cats and kittens during the months of June, July, and August.
