Many long-time Austinites still remember Sam Hurt for his long running comic strip Eyebeam which ran in the UT school newspaper, The Daily Texan and his next comic featuring Ratliff’s niece Peaches in Queen of the Universe which ran in many newspapers including the Austin American Statesman. In 1996 he animated a music video for Brave Combo’s song, The Hokey Pokey.
Since then Hurt has been painting as seen in the We Are Austin segment. Sam’s paintings and cartoons can be seen at  Avenue Gallery on South Congress. The Gibson guitar sculpture he painted for the Austin Guitartown Project is currently displayed in front of the Austin Children’s Museums downtown.
