A fantastic new restaurant located on 31st and Guadalupe is El Greco Greek Taverna, an authentic Greek restaurant featuring an assortment of fresh, healthy dishes with no preservatives. El Greco may be new to Austin but they are certainly not new to the tradition of Greek food. El Greco is the only Greek owned and operated restaurant in the city.
Executive Chef Jake Konstantinidis is well versed in the Greek tradition and it shows in the preparation of his food. “All the food here is cooked to order and it’s made fresh daily,” says Jake. “They’re ancestral recipes, it’s food that I’ve grown up with. It’s been passed down from my great great grandmother [all the way] to my mother down to me. So it’s real authentic.”
El Greco’s menu consists of traditional Greek appetizers, entrees, and desserts featuring delicious pastries prepared by head pastry chef Athina Konstantinidis which happens to be Jake’s mother. The taverna is open for lunch and dinner throughout the week and features happy hour specials as well.
Central to El Greco is the healthy nature of the food served inside its doors. Konstantinidis takes pride in serving delicious food that is also good for you. “Austin is a very health conscience town. And that’s what we’re all about,” says Jake. “Mediterranean and Greek food are some of the healthiest diets in the world. We pride ourselves on cooking healthy.” The restaurant features plenty of vegan and vegetarian fare as well as a gluten free menu allowing each customer a full selection of items that fit their individual preferences.
For an authentic Greek experience, look no further than El Greco Greek Taverna. It’s some of the best tasting fresh food in the city all at an extremely great value.
